Alan Pardew already has one Egyptian centre-back in Ahmed Hegazi, but now his defensive partner has officially joined him at The Hawthrones in a loan deal until the end of the season.
The Premier League team will have the option to buy Gabr permanently, with a fee already agreed between the two clubs.
The 29-year-old will wear the No. 16 shirt for West Brom and is relishing his chance to shine in England.
Speaking after the signing was finalised, Gabr said: "I'm here to help the team and do my job. I'm very happy and excited to be here".
The club's techincal director Nick Hammond also echoed the Egyptian's sentiments: "He's a player that we first identified at the African Cup of Nations where he played alongside Ahmed".
"We've continued to follow his progress since then and saw a good opportunity to do a deal in this window This is a great opportunity for him and we're delighted to have him here".
Gabr could make his debut in West Brom's Premier League fixture against leaders Manchester City on Wednesday as the player has signed before Tuesday's midday deadline for registration.
